I got this as a replacement for the webcam my last job provided me — it was an expensive Canon DSLR camera with an Elgato HDMI to USB dongle. (~$800 us)
This webcam has very good quality, maybe 5-10% lower than my previous one but is infinitely more convenient to use.
The privacy shutter is great, I’m not losing a lens cap anymore, and this webcam runs fully off of the USB-C power and I don’t need a special adapter to power it like I did with my Canon setup.
I run Linux and it works beautifully, even without the OpenRazer kernel modules. All I needed to do was change the pixel format to MJPG with cameractrls and it records 1080p@60 like a charm. I know it can do 4K but I didn’t bother as that doesn’t get transferred over the wire in my meeting applications, they max out at 1080p.

So this is the best webcam on the market. But I am sorry Razer, for the price of an entry level or second hand mirrorless camera, it is unfathomable that there is no mac support. The camera works on a mac, but the software does not. No zoom, camera controls, etc. It is just beyond all comprehension that the worlds best webcam would not work on the platform that most imaging professionals use. I bought this for a project that required mac, and I had to return it. Other than than it is an amazing device.

You can program these on a PC and plug them into a Mac. But it’s a pain in the butt. It’s a good camera, but the autofocus is slow. If you want the best picture quality, sure. But on a Mac, don’t bother.

I’ve used cheaper cams and they all failed to work in my office since I have dark painted walls. This cam works perfectly. Highly recommended.

The video quality is way better than I was expecting, way better than my phone and better than any other webcam I’ve used. And the built in microphone on this is better than the mic I planned on using so I will be using this for both. Set it all up in obs quick. Highly recommend. Got this and the mx brio to test and returning that one and keeping this razer.

super clear and smooth video for streaming or for making videos in general and the razer software is so easy to use and configure its amazing

The lens is amazing. However, the software needs attention. It freezes and crashes on my Win 11 machine which is rock solid otherwise.
You CANNOT modify the camera’s settings if it’s being used by other software. My Brio is better in this regard. This is a pretty big weakness.
If they update the Synapse software and make it more stable and add the ability to modify camera settings, this would be the best webcam on the market.

I am hoping Razer monitors reviews…
This camera has great potential, and I WANT to keep it, but…
Synapse 4 (downloaded and installed 2 days ago) has a bug when saving settings to the camera.
I have fully documented this on the Razer Insider forum. “Kiyo Pro Ultra / Synapse blind user questions
Until this bug is fixed, it is impossible to save camera setting changes, quit Synapse, and start the application actually intended to use the camera.
(Synapse must be opened to change camera settings, then closed in order to use other software such as Camera, OBS, QuickCamera, etc.)
Also, the next time Synapse is opened, it complains that the camera and Synapse have different settings. (Because they do since Synapse doesn’t write the settings correctly to the camera…)
This makes it impossible to “close the loop” and return to Synapse to make minor adjustments.
My testing has been specific to turning off Auto Exposure and using manual settings.
It is possible that Synapse works ok as long as Auto Exposure is being used.
My use case requires Auto Exposure to be off, so that is what I am testing.
I hope someone from Razer sees this and responds.
I have had no luck using the Razer support forum.
Without Synapse (which only runs on Windows), the power of the KPU cannot be realized. Might as well have a cheaper webcam.
Cheers

The Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra has to be one of the best webcams on the market today. Even surpassing my current Elgato Pro 4K Webcam which records up to 4K60. The Razer surprisingly surpassed my expectations in video quality and outperformed the Elgato 4K hands down in low-light recording situations. Privacy features were clearly integrated very well as well as their onboard Microphone which most webcams like the Elgato 4K doesnt even have. The size of the camera is perfect and ideal for all recording situations.
As both a MAC User and Windows user, I will say the software is lacking but should not be your reason to pass this exceptional choice up. I was easily able to find free software to use with the web cam from XSplit that even works for MAC. I would like to note that my review of this webcam is coming from someone who doesn’t play video games online and that its marketing of being an outstanding choice for low-light recording was the primary reason I purchased it. In closing this camera did not disappoint and I strongly recommend you give this webcam a chance regardless if your a gamer or content creator.

Razer’s software for this camera is not available MACOS, which may scare some buyers off. But it shouldn’t. I paid $7.99 for “webcam settings” and it gives me everything I need and more to get crystal clear, DSLR like images out of this thing. What’s even better is that the app stays at the top of your screen and you can quickly jump between presets for different times of day, lighting conditions, etc. and it all works flawlessly with the Ultra.
Also, if you’re on the fence because of the focus hunting, honestly, it’s better than some other 4k cameras out there, it wasn’t anything unbearable for me. And I just made two presents under my settings app, one with auto focus on and one that’s manually set focus. I get the best do both worlds at the click of a button.
I’ve had my share of webcams and I’ve gone the DSLR route once. But for a WFH setup focused on the highest quality gear available for the best presentation online. This thing kicks a**!!!
100% recommend.
