This is my 6th Kensington Expert Mouse Trackball. I have all three of the varieties. This one was effectively DoA as the buttons will randomly click when I’m actively using the mouse.
This one is obviously updated from the older version of the same mouse. It’s construction isn’t quite as good as the previous model. I assume they have reduced costs and potentially made a lesser product.
The Kensington SlimBlade Trackball Mouse, which I also have, has the most amazingly smooth ball. It’s such a wonder to use. It has two huge problems though. The first is that in order to scroll one doesn’t use a scroll wheel but instead the mouse ball is turned to scroll. This just shoots RSI through the roof and causes scrolling during normal operation. The second is that the second two buttons don’t function without installing their software and that has it’s own issues. Don’t use their software.
At this time, I’d say go with the wireless version plus a dozen rechargeable batteries. Sure, it goes through two batteries PER DAY, but at least it works well and is wireless. I only went with wired again as I didn’t want to have to charge four batteries per day instead of two. (My second is used by another family member.) Since they seem to have altered a good thing, I guess I’ll switch to the wireless.
Don’t call their support either. It’s pointless.

Perfect for gaming. Just ordered a second one for work computer. Have had first one for years. Really stood up to my Sons gaming!!! Just dust off the red motion pickup sensors and your ready to go again. Highly recommend!!! Worth the price!!!

I own 7 of these for my company. Every machine has one. Space savings and more control, not to mention better for RSI. Love it!

I used trackballs of varying types all the time years ago and just got away from them with time as I was working mostly on the run with laptops. These days I’m fixed at my desk a lot more and decided after having a defective Logitech Hero that kept double clicking things that I’d try one of the Expert Mouse units again.
Very solid build, modern level of resolution and the software allows for some nice customization of the mappings and button assignments.
I have fairly large hands and find this more comfortable that a typical mouse. My hand doesn’t cramp up as much.
These track balls are best for “consuming” media or operating the controls of software applications, if you really need fine control a traditional mouse or better yet, a digitizer pen are better options. It does take a few days of adjustment if you have never used one. You will want to experiment with the acceleration and speed thresholds and the button modifier to go to high resolution, fine, slow mode is very handy too.
The only thing to know and I already did from years ago is that you basically lift the ball out and clean the guide posts pretty much daily to keep them nice and smooth. I just use a dry napkin to wipe them off, nothing fancy. The ball rewards clean hands, it’s not going to treat you well if you keep using it during a nice lunch of fried chicken.

I love these Trackballs, this is my 3rd one I have 2 wired Trackballs on 2 PCs and a wire less one for my laptop. I find them very comfortable to use, I found no issues in setting them up. I thought that it was a bit pricey, but worth it, in the end. Yes very pleased with this Trackball.

I am a big fan of trackballs over mice. I have used these for years.

Bought this, when it came it worked for a couple hours. Then the mouse part stopped moving. The buttons worked but not the mouse, would have to unplug it and plug it back in for it to work. The seller gave me a full refund. Thank you for the chance to try this.

broke when I attempted to update firmware. Took 8 months to get a replacement!! Frustrating to say the least but at least they kept in contact every month asking if I had received a replacement. Finally got one and I love it. would have given 5 starts if it wasn’t for the 8 months to get warranty replacement.

When I unpacked it, I realised it’s just a regular laser mouse, with the sensor tracking the ball instead of the table surface. Not really sure it’s worth the 100€ price.
Now, regarding the ergonomics, it’s been only a bit more than a week, and while I’m not back to the accuracy and speed as I was with a regular mouse, I’m already seeing some benefits. I love how I can just spin the ball and move the cursor through 3 displays without any issue.
Now, why only 3 stars? Well, when I leave my PC sleeping, after it wakes up, the trackball doesn’t work. I have to replug it so I can use it, which is very annoying, as it means that almost every time I go back to my PC, I have to get to the PCs back, unplug it and plug it back again. It did not happen with any mouse or keyboard that I’ve been using before. If this problem persists, I’m thinking of returning it, just because it’s so annoying, maybe getting another trackball.
